The Cabe Public Library has kicked off the summer reading program, "Discover New Trails @ Your Library." There are activities for youngsters from preschool through age 12. For older children who can read independently, the Summer Library Reading Program will begin June 15. Children can attend the weekly event every Tuesday at 2 p.m. Each week will include a special guest presentation. Registration begins June 8. Julie Watson also conducts a weekly story hour for children throughout the year. All the programs, like all the services of the library, are free and open to anyone, said LeElna Davidson, who has been librarian at Gurdon for 15 years. The library, working through the Clark County Library, can get many of the newest releases by the most popular authors along with lots of old favorites. Davidson said the library also accepts requests from patrons and will do its best to locate those requests. "We try to stay updated with the latest titles," Davidson said. "If someone requests something and we can, we'll get it." The favored authors and types of books at the Gurdon Library include Westerns by Louis L'Amour, Mysteries by Sue Grafton and the legal thrillers by John Grisham. Other authors include Roy Roberts, John Sanford and Julie Garwood. Many books are available in large print and the Gurdon Library has a large selection of those. Magazines and reference books are also available. There is a large selection of audio books that include such popular authors as Grisham, Garwood and Jude Deveraux. There is one public computer terminal available to patrons of the library. Davidson said the terminal has become so much in demand that a 30-minute time limit has been imposed. To become a patron of the library, simply drop by 204 Walnut Street and fill out a request for a library card. The process is simple and takes only a few minutes. Required information includes name, address and a reference. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
