Betty CarterPublished Wednesday, June 2, 2004 in the Gurdon TimesARKADELPHIA Betty Carter, 73, of Arkadelphia died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at her home. She was born May 26, 1930, in Arkadelphia, the daughter of the late William Bill and Emma Sue Childers Ashley. She was a lifelong resident of Arkadelphia, formerly employed by Oberman Manufacturing Co. for 27 years, Thresa9s Fashions for 10 years and receptionist for two years for Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Survivors include: her loving husband of 54 years, Wright Carter; two daughters, Debbie McMaster of Arkadelphia and Karen Shehane of Sherman, Texas; three sisters, Margaret Carter of Bloomfield, N.M., Billie Sue Simonis of San Antonio, Texas, and Sarah Brugeman of Modesto, Calif.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lee and Laverne Sweet, J.C. and Joyce Gallant and Mary Tucker and Betty Jane Carter, all of Arkadelphia; three grandchildren, 13 nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services were be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Hargett officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund.
