Shipment number one of the 17th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival T-shirts is about gone.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Chamber, said the shirts are $11 each up to size XXX, but are going fast. "We're ready to reorder now. We thought the first shipment would last longer."

Those interested in buying a shirt should do so quickly by calling the Chamber at 887-2101. In addition, businesses are asked to have their employees wear the shirts on Fridays until the festival.

This year's festival will be June 4-5 at the Prescott City Park, with all of the old favorite events returning. This includes the Rotary Club's Chicken in the Rough dinner on Friday evening starting at 5 o'clock, and the Kiwanis Club's Old Time Country Breakfast Saturday morning from 7:30-9:30.

The variety show will also be Friday at 5 p.m. and feature plenty of local talent. But, Godwin said, anyone who would like to perform should contact the Chamber to be placed on the schedule. Those attending need to bring their lawn chairs and settle in for a good time.

There will be plenty for the athletically inclined to do, starting with the Calvin Brown-Tyson 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The sporting events include the annual men's and women's softball tourneys, the tennis tourney, the 5K run/walk and the ever popular Chicken Chase mile run for children. The men's softball tourney will be at Bemis Field at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, while the women's tourney will be at Livingston Field in the park, as will the tennis and basketball tourneys.

The horseshoe tournament will be held at the pits across the street from the park.

Applications for the different athletic tournaments will be mailed out in early May, but those interested can go by the Chamber and register as well.

The Artesian Arts League will sponsor an art show at the Depot Museum. This year's show will include painting, photography and quilts. The League will present ribbons to the exhibitors selected as best of show in each category.

The Farm Bureau Women's Committee will again be sponsoring a poster contest for children.

Area cooks can pit their skills against one another in the annual chicken or egg recipe contest. This event is held at the Extension Service office on Highway 67 Saturday, June 5.

Saturday will be a full day, starting with the 5K, and including the balloon liftoff, the golden egg hunt with its cash prize for the person who finds it, the hula hoop contest, the jump rope contest, egg toss, Mr. and Miss Prize Drumstick Contest, cackling/crowing contest and the Little Mister Rooster and Miss Hen Pageant.

For more information about the festival, call the Chamber at 887-2101.
