This year's play by the Artesian Arts League will be "Birds of a Feather".

This was decided at the League's regular monthly meeting Thursday, April 22. The play will be put on Friday and Saturday, August 6-7, at the City Hall Auditorium. Tryouts will be held in June, with the date to be announced later. It is a romantic comedy, with a nine-person cast of four men and five women.

League President Judy Duke said the play books are in and have been paid for.

Because of conflicts, the League again delayed the Table Topper, moving it from May 1, to Oct. 2. There was discussion about having the Table Topper in conjunction with Chocolate Sunday on June 27, but this idea was nixed as having the two events together would have been difficult.

Katherine Crain, who's in charge of the Table Topper, suggested having it on Oct. 2 and calling it Fabulous Fall, with the board agreeing.

The League will again host an art show for the annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival June 4-5. The art show exhibits will be at the Depot Museum this year, and will include art, photography and quilts. Ribbons will be presented to the exhibitors as best of show in each category.

Notices will be sent to those artists who usually participate in the show. Otherwise, anyone interested in having an exhibit at the art show should call Janice Hill at 887-2847, 887-3303, or Judy Duke at 887-5506.

Chris Olson, who does a plant show on KATV Channel 11, will be invited to Prescott on Nov. 13, to talk about plants. Olson has been to Prescott before, with his event well attended. Members of the League's board agreed it may be better attended as more people are familiar with him and his work.

Peggy Lloyd asked the League to consider having a Christmas program at the Carolina Church. The church, she said, is on the National Historic Register. However, the building has no utilities.

According to Lloyd, the League could do a "reader's theater" using Civil War era letters the museum has. These letters are from people who used to live in the Carolina Community during this period.

The "actors", she said, could be seated at a table in period clothing, writing the letter, but actually the performer would read part of one of the letters.

Crain said visitors to the program could be given candles to help provide atmosphere and illumination.

Duke said advance tickets would need to be sold if this is done, and it could be advertised as having transportation provided, as the church is located in a remote part of the county. No decision was made on this idea at the meeting, but it will be addressed later on.

The League will also discuss its plans for the Chicken and Egg Festival more in depth at its meeting on May 20.
