Easter bunny will visit Prescott Saturday, April 10, at FairgroundsBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 7, 2004 in the Nevada County Picayune Easter is right around the corner, and with it comes the 10th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt. This year's hunt will take place Saturday, April 10, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, with the eggs scattered all over Bemis Field, weather permitting. Should it rain, the hunting will be done in the Potlatch Building. Mary Godwin, executive director of the Chamber, said the hunters will be divided into four age groups. The first will be ages 1-2, starting at 10 a.m., followed by the 3-4-year-olds at 10:30, and those 5-7 at 11 a.m. The final group, ages 8-9, will hunt from 11:30 until noon. A golden egg will be hidden for each age group, Godwin said, with the person finding it getting a stuffed Easter Bunny. Overall, 2,600 eggs will be hidden for the children to hunt and find, with all of the eggs having candy and prizes in them. This way, everyone who finds an egg wins a prize. While the children enjoy hunting the eggs, there will be more than just hunting going on. Inside the Potlatch Building, Godwin said, children can get their faces painted for $1, or have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny for $2. Other games that will be at the hunt include a ring toss and duck pond game. There will also be balloons, a ping-pong ball toss, rabbit races, crafts, contests and balloons for the youngsters. Again this year, the Artesian Arts League will be sponsoring a balloon artist who will tie balloons into the shape of animals to help entertain the children. There will be a Paper Easter Egg Decorating Contest, Godwin said, with the eggs top be decorated cut out of construction paper. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. This event is sponsored by Alliance Insurance. There will be one winner in each division. McLelland Construction is sponsoring a guess the number of jelly beans in a jar contest. The winner gets to take the jar of jelly beans home. Children are asked to bring Easter baskets to hunt the eggs, and each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, Godwin said. There is no admission for the hunt. For more information, call the Chamber at 887-2101. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
