Gurdon Primary School students recently participated in a Math-A-Thon to help raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

The students collected more than $1,100 by working math problems and asking for pledges from their friends and neighbors for each problem they worked.

According to St. Jude's, the Math-A-Thon program is sponsored by St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and is designed to strengthen the students' math skills by providing free materials which supplement their basic curriculum.

Cancer kills more children than any other disease. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is among the world's largest childhood cancer research centers and its purpose is to provide both medical treatment for ill children and research that will permanently wipe out childhood cancer and other disease.
