There will be no Table Topper presented in March by the Artesian Arts League.

The League's board of directors met Thursday, Feb. 26, initially to discuss plans for the event, which had been scheduled for March 27. However, it was decided March was too soon after Christmas for another Table Topper. The organization held a holiday Table Topper in December, shortly before the Christmas holidays.

Instead, the board chose to move the Table Topper to May 1 and celebrate May Day. Along with the decorated tables, there will be a hat contest, with prizes for the best looking hat, best decorated and silliest.

This event will be held from 10 a.m. until noon at the City Hall Auditorium, with the Art's League Ensemble to perform.

March, though, won't be barren of entertainment from the group. On March 20, a Soup Saturday will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the City Hall Auditorium. There will be several varieties of soup, along with a drink and dessert, all available for $3.

Soup Saturday will have an Irish Theme because of its proximity to St. Patrick's Day. In addition, local poets can, if they choose, read either their favorite poem or their own work. However, each poet will be limited to reading two poems. This event is open to the public.

At this time, according to Arts League President Judy Duke, three plays are being considered for the summer production. All three plays are comedies.

But, Duke said, two of the plays require large casts, and there could be problems getting enough people to audition for the various parts.
