Prescott's baseball team has been showing improvement throughout the season.

However, the Curley Wolves were unable to overcome an early deficit to the Mena Bearcats Monday, March 22, as they fell 5-3 in league action.

This puts the Wolves at 0-2 in conference play and 2-8 overall. Mena is 2-0 and 4-4.

The 'Cats jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a lead-off single and two-out double.

Mena added a run in the top of the third, this time with a single followed by another double with only one down.

Prescott's offense wasn't clicking at this point as the Wolves were unable to get a runner in scoring position.

Inning number four saw Mena post one more run to its tally. This score came from a single, walk and throwing error.

The 'Cats increased the lead to 4-0 in the fifth after a double and error allowed the score.

Prescott's offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth with the Wolves cutting the lead in half at 4-2.

Jarod Miller opened the frame with a single and scored when Jarod Yates took one out of the park. This was his sixth home run of the season.

The Wolves narrowed the gap even more in the sixth with another run. But this would prove to be Prescott's final offensive salvo in the game.

Brad Harris opened the inning with a single and went to second when Gabe Morman walked. Ronnie Nolen followed with a pinch-hit RBI single.

The 'Cats responded with an insurance run in the top of the seventh. A throwing error let the lead-off batter reach first. He then scored on a one-out single.

Miller opened Prescott's half of the seventh with a single, but watched the next three batters go down in order.

Josh Bullock's pitching record fell to 1-3 on the year despite a solid performance, Coach Steve Crow said. Bullock fanned five and walked four in the game, while giving up seven hits.

Mena also won the junior varsity game 4-1.
