Prescott's Wolverettes ended the regular season by splitting the final two games.

The Wolverettes managed a 31-27 win over Mena Friday, Feb. 13, but dropped a tough one against De Queen Tuesday, Feb. 10, 58-41.

Prescott gave the Lady Leopards all they wanted early on, leading 6-4 with 2:51 left in the first quarter in a tough defensive contest. The two squads swapped buckets, with the difference being De Queen hit a trio of three-pointers while Prescott's points were all deuces.

By the end of one, De Queen was up 15-8, and extended this lead to 30-19 by halftime by keeping the pressure on Prescott's ball handlers and turning Wolverette mistakes into points.

The second half opened with De Queen hitting a trey. From there it was a battle up and down the court, with the two squads playing even. The Lady Leopards outscored the Wolverettes 12-11 in the frame, but any player in the paint paid a price in pain as it was brutal around the bucket.

The third quarter came to an end with Prescott on the short end of a 42-30 score.

Thirty-two seconds into the final period the Lady Leopards were in the bonus and proved to be deadly from the line. Overall, De Queen hit 13 of 17 free throws, while Prescott was five of 14.

Prescott had to foul to stop the clock and try to get back in the game, only to see De Queen sink free throw after free throw.

Mary Delgado led Prescott with 13 points, while Daloris Steuart added 10.

Lindsey Dooley was the game's leading scorer with 24.

Prescott Coach Jody Cowart said De Queen is a good team and should go far into the state tournament. "We gave it all we had and played hard."

Friday's game saw the Wolverettes whip Mena 31-27 in a low-scoring affair.

Defense dominated from the opening tip to the final buzzer as both teams battled to keep the other from scoring. For the most part, it worked.

Prescott manages a 9-6 lead at the end of one and held a 21-14 advantage at halftime.

The Wolverettes maintained a seven-point lead throughout the third period, only to have Mena cut into it during the fourth quarter.

Prescott didn't do a good job at the line, hitting only two of seven free throws. Mena, though, was 10 of 16.

Tammy Harris paced Prescott with 11 points.

Brittany Browning was Mena's leading scorer with 10.

The Wolverettes finished third in 7AAA standings as they enter the district tournament in Mena this week.
