Gurdon's Prescott Family Clinic has recently hired one of Gurdon's own.

Aimee Hughes has lived in and out of Gurdon for most of her life. Her mother originally being from Gurdon, and the majority of her family still living here, Hughes has several local connections.

As a child Hughes was a missionary with her parents spending much of their time in Honduras where Hughes learned to speak Spanish fluently.

In the early 90s, Hughes and her family returned to Gurdon where Hughes graduated with the class of 1991 as Aimee Dixon and met her husband Jason.

After graduation, Aimee and Jason attended Central Baptist College in Conway. They were soon married, both finishing their degrees.

Hughes worked for awhile as an Registered Nurse (RN), but was talked into going back to school and becoming a Nurse Practitioner and specializing in geriatrics.

Jason had attended school to be a teacher. Soon a job was available for a teaching position in Gurdon and she found a job in Hope at the Migrant Farm Labor Center's Clinic.

"I didn't think I would get the job, because I was expecting with our third child and was seven months along at the time.

The clinic was desperate for someone well trained and fluent in Spanish, so I got the job regardless," said Hughes.

The couple made their home in Arkadelphia with Jason driving to Gurdon and Aimee to Hope.

"I talked with Dr. Michael Young on several occasions about patients he and I had both seen. So I knew him already.

When he bought the clinic in Gurdon, he and I both felt it would be a good opportunity for me.

"It is nice to be able to help everyone and it is important to know Spanish since the population is steadily growing.

"The community really needs this clinic. We can do so many things there. We can do X-rays, lab work, EKG's, biopsies and several other things, not to mention the specialists who come in on a regular basis," said Hughes.

She also talked about Dr. Robeiro who visits the office on Mondays.

"He is a great cardiologist. He is deeply concerned for people and wants to help. We can do most test in our office, except angiograms," said Hughes.

The clinic is hoping to have an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist to come soon.

Hughes also said the clinic was glad to help with Medicare, Medicaid and such.

"We have a wonderful lady who comes in and helps people with the filing of these things. She is really wonderful.

"Don't afraid to come to the clinic, because you are scared your insurance won't cover it. We will try to find a way," said Hughes.
