Katherine HalePublished Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in the Nevada County PicayuneMrs. Katherine Matthews Hale, 90, of Prescott, passed away Friday, January 23, 2004, at Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Tex. Katherine was born March 15, 1913, in Glenwood, to George W. and Nona Harper Matthews. She was a graduate of Hope High School and attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia. She was a student at the school of nursing at St. Paul's Hospital in Dallas, Tex., and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was surgical nurse at the Cora Donnell Hospital in Prescott when she met and married Eugene B. Hale of Prescott in 1934. She was a member of the Baptist Church and later the First Methodist Church of Prescott and taught Sunday School and was a member of the W.S.C.S. She was a Charter member of the Prescott Tri-Service Club. She was a past President of the Prescott PTA and a member of the DAR and the B&PW. She maintained her nursing license and worked part time in later years. Katherine loved to travel. She made trips to the Holy Land, Ireland and England. She would frequently report on her travels to the local newspaper. She enjoyed driving her car to see friends and relatives. She never met a stranger and made many friends and acquaintances over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Eugene B. Hale, and by two sisters, Helen Higbee and Faye Sullivan. Her survivors include: three sons, Eugene B. Hale, Jr. of Prescott, N. Patrick Hale, M.D., of St. Augustine, Fla., and Steve Hale of Houston, Tex.; five grandchildren, Rachel and Ben Hale of Prescott, Jennifer Susan Hale of San Francisco, Calif., Patrick Hale, Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., and Nona Hale of Houston, Tex. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2004, at First Methodist Church in Prescott with Rev. Jim Lenderman officiating. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. Family received friends, Sunday, January 25, 2004, from 5-7 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish.
