A number of projects began in 2003 should be completed in 2004, according to Jon Chadwell, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office.

One of the more important projects, Chadwell told the Nevada County Quorum Court at its meeting Monday, Jan. 12, is a final walk through of the building for Prescott Rubber, Inc. Once company officials approve the facility, they will move equipment in and tested, then start hiring employees. Chadwell said hiring should begin around March.

The company, he said, already has a lot of orders.

Getting the corners completed has held up the downtown sidewalk project. Chadwell said the corners will have brick inlay and are designed for drainage as well as handicap accessibility. The crews will also have to finish the sidewalks on Elm Street, making sure they will drain properly when it rains.

The bid, Chadwell said, has been let for the fire station/parks department office on the east side of Prescott. The low bid was $140,000, which is more than allotted for the project.

He said the committee will work to try and cut costs and get it within the budget.

The search for a contractor to do the street repairs throughout Prescott will begin soon, he said. City crews will do the prep work, along with clearing ditches where necessary for the street repaving project.

Leadership Nevada County's fourth class began with its retreat. Those in the class, he said, will be the community leaders for the future. The leadership program lasts 12 months, with the class learning about such things as law enforcement, education and government. It culminates in December with a banquet and graduation ceremonies.

A contract has been signed with an architect for the walking/jogging trail by the Nevada County Health Unit.

Chadwell said he will get the paperwork together for an interlocal agreement between the city and county, with the city being responsible for maintaining the trail.

"We hope to have it built over the summer," he said. "There are a lot of hoops to jump through, and we're trying to get through them quickly."

There was little other business for the court to do. However, the Justices of the Peace did approve a budget for the Prescott-Nevada County Library.

The county budgeted about $21,000 for its part of the library's budget, giving the facility a total of $52,040.91 to operate on for 2004.

Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown said Nick Hibbs is buying the Nevada County Ambulance Service from Chad Cornelius. Hibbs, he said, is from Hope and has been working with the NCAS.

Hibbs, Brown added, will continue working out of Prescott and has been invited to the February court meeting to discuss the ambulance service and his plans.

Brown said Hibbs will continue operating out of the building the NCAS is currently based in, and plans on keeping the service in Prescott.
