Prescott's Curley Wolves took care of the Nashville Scrappers in easy fashion Friday night, Jan. 16. The Wolverettes, though, did not.

The Wolves finished the night with a 60-36 win over Nashville, while the Wolverettes fell 49-28.

SCRAPPERS 36

Almost from the outset there was no doubt which team was in control, as the Wolves hammered Nashville 60-36.

The Scrappers won the toss and scored first, but Nashville's 2-0 lead was short-lived and the visitor's only lead of the night.

Prescott tied the game with a pair of free throws, and went six for six from the line in the first quarter.

The Wolves went on an 11-0 run as the home team built a 17-8 first quarter lead.

Prescott remained in control in the second quarter as the Wolves were able to do pretty much what they wanted on the hardwood all night. With 4:31 left in the half, the Wolves were up 25-11 and in the bonus situation.

Throughout the game, the Wolves looked to run and gun, taking advantage of their superior speed. Halftime arrived with Prescott firmly in control 32-17.

Period three was much the same as the first two quarters as the Wolves were methodical in dismantling the Scrappers. Prescott outscored Nashville 11-7 in the frame to take a 43-24 lead into the final eight minutes.

Prescott Coach Larry Newsom cleared his bench during the fourth quarter, giving the younger players minutes on the court in a game situation. This experience will prove valuable later on.

The subs were more aggressive than the starters, and attacked the ball each time Nashville was on offense, looking for a steal and fast break.

For the game, the Wolves were 15-19 from the charity stripe, while Nashville converted five of eight free throws.

Ray Smith paved the way for Prescott with 13 points. Luther Steuart followed with 11, while Robert Malone chipped in 10.

Brett Harris led Nashville with eight.

The Wolves maintained their 21-point lead as both teams scored nine in the third quarter. However, Prescott went on a 15-0 run in the final frame for the win.

Prescott hit eight of 16 from the line, while the Lions connected on eight of 22.

LEOPARDS 45

Getting a win in De Queen is always sweet for Prescott, no matter what the sport. On Friday, Jan. 9, the Wolves traveled to De Queen and posted a narrow 46-45 win over the Leopards.

The game was hard-fought from the start, though the Wolves ended period one with an 11-7 lead and were up 23-17 at the half.

The Leopards fought back in the third quarter, taking a 31-29 lead, only to see the Wolves win the final eight minutes and escape with the victory.

A.J. Lewis and Stueart were Prescott's leading scorers with 12 each. Malone added 10 to the win.

Williams was the game's leading scorer with 20 for the Leopards.

Prescott Wolverette Coach Jody Cowart said Nashville's senior girls are favored to win the 7AAA conference title.

The Scrapperettes showed why Friday night, Jan. 16, with a 49-28 win over the Wolverettes.

Prescott managed to stay close in the first quarter, but wound up on the short end of a 13-11 score. From there, it was all Nashville, as the Scrapperettes allowed the home team to score but three points in the second quarter.

Halftime arrived with Nashville leading 24-14.

Prescott's situation didn't improve in the second half, as several starters spent quality time on the bench because of foul trouble.

Nashville ended period three leading 36-16, and maintained its advantage in the fourth period.

Prescott was six of 15 from the stripe, while Nashville converted 20 of 29 free throws.

Tammy Harris was held to seven points as Prescott's leading scorer. Mary Delgado was next with four.

Rachell Bonner led all scorers with 13 for Nashville.

LADY LEOPARDS 53

For years, it's been nearly impossible for Prescott's Wolverettes to win at De Queen, and Friday, Jan. 9, was no exception as the Lady Leopards posted a 53-32 win

The Wolverettes were held to single digits in scoring in the first, second and fourth quarters, and only had one free throw attempt in the game.

De Queen led 8-6 after one and was up 26-11 at the half. The third quarter saw Prescott battle back, somewhat, cutting the lead to 33-24. From there, it was all Lady Leopards as they outscored the Wolverettes 20-8 in the final eight minutes.

De Queen was 12 of 14 at the line.

Delgado paced the Wolverettes with 17 points on the night.

Mary Harrison led De Queen with 15, Tamara Brown scored 12 and Lindsay Dooley had 10.
