"We don't play well at home, I don't know why," said Mike McKenzie, Gurdon Lady Devil's coach. The ladies kept to that pattern bringing their record to 6-8.

On January 6, the Lady Go-Devils could not pull out a win against the visiting Lady Dragons of Genoa Central, losing 64-40.

The Lady Dragons pulled ahead early and never looked back. Genoa Central pressured the Lady Devils with a full court press early to cause turnovers and thanks to the three point shooting of Jaclyn Howery, the Lady Dragons led 20-7 at the end of the first quarter.

It was more of the same in the second quarter with Howery hitting six three-pointers in the first half. Alecia Bell and Jernek Henry led scoring for the Lady Devils, but by the end of the third quarter, Genoa Central had blown the game open with a 56-21 lead. The Lady Dragons held on to end the game 64-40.

Howery was the top scorer for Genoa Central with 25 points. For Gurdon, Bell scored 17 and Henry picked up 16 points.

The Lady Devils recently won two games at the Fouke Classic and will face important conference games in the coming weeks.

In the men's game, the Go-Devils and the Dragons faced off in a defensive battle, but Gurdon could not pull it out losing, 33-29, and making their record 7-4.

Despite rebounding well throughout the game, Gurdon could not put points on the board. At the end of the first quarter Genoa Central was ahead 6-3. It was more of the same in the second and the Dragons led the Devils 12-7 at the half.

The Go-Devils continued to struggle with shooting and taking advantage of turnovers in the third quarter and trailed 22-15. Gurdon came to life in the fourth quarter and heightened their defense to pressure the Dragons. The Go-Devils pulled within five with under a minute left in the game. The Devils committed a critical foul and sent Gary Buckly to the line. He hit one of his foul shots, but Lavon Laster fired back with a three point shot to draw the Devils closer.

Gurdon had to foul again and gave up a point at the line. With just seconds left the Devils pulled within three points, but a questionable intentional foul was called on Gurdon and Kevin Day, who scored eight on the night for the Dragons, put the game out of reach with a foul shot, making the final score 33-29.

Genoa Central player, Joey Bryant led all scorers with 11 points and for the Go-Devils, Laster led with seven points and Roman Montgomery scored six.
