Martha CoxPublished Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in the Gurdon TimesMartha Lura Cox, 81, died December 24, 2003, at Conway Regional Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Gurdon, and worked in banking for more than 40 years before becoming City Treasurer of Gurdon. She was a lifelong member of Beech Street Baptist Church having attended for the first time on the Sunday she turned one-month-old. Her church was always a big part of her life and an integral part of raising her children. When failing health dictated, Martha reluctantly left the home she loved so much and moved to Heritage Living Center in Conway where she lived until her death. Martha made the best situation by participating in all available social activities at the home and making many friends. Martha was the matriarch of a family that loved, appreciated and respected her for the life she lived and the sacrifices she made for them. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Rufus Cox in 1993. Survivors include her three children, Jerry Cox and wife, Susie of Bismarck, daughters, Lauren Hill and husband, Gary of Conway and Lura Leigh Lawrence and husband, James also of Conway; four granddaughters, Haley Bray of Illinois, Tina Hain of Bismarck, Happi and Sunny Hill both of Conway; and three great-grandchildren; Gunnar Howard, Jacob and Sydney Bray. Services were Saturday, December 27, at 2:30 p.m. in Horne Funeral Home Chapel in Gurdon with interment in Rose Hedge Cemetery. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
