Roy Waters

Roy N. Waters, Jr., 71, of Magnolia, died December 14, 2003, at his home.

He was born September 14, 1932, in Prescott, and reared in Willisville to the late Ogla Matthews Waters and Roy Waters, Sr.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where he was head usher for many years, as well as on the administrative board. He was a 50 year member of the White Oak Lake Hunting Club. Mr. Waters was a retired volunteer fireman, retiring after 20 years of service. He was self-employed in the trucking business for many years, retiring in 1997 as the superintendent of the Magnolia City Street Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Silvey Waters of Magnolia; sons, Mike Waters and wife Angie of Magnolia, and Randy Waters and wife Carolyne of Magnolia; brother, Sammy Waters and wife Mary Ann of Magnolia; sister, Pat Fennell and husband Louis of Gilmer, Tex.; grandson, Joseph Waters; granddaughter, Abby Waters; several nieces, nephews, as well as numerous cousins.

Mr. Waters was an avid outdoorsman and gun enthusiast. He particularly enjoyed his time at the fishing cabin on White Oak Lake, as well as the time spent with his family and friends at the White Oak Hunting Club. In general, he loved life and lived each day to the fullest, always positive and offering a helping hand.

Graveside services were Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Willisville Cemetery. A memorial service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Culpepper officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia.

Memorial may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or charity of donor's choice.
