Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, April 7, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

Spring fever! It seems as though we have caught this 'bug.' the beautiful two days were enjoyed by each and everyone. It had been some time since we had enjoyed the sunshine. We do realize that rain is not out of the picture for us, but we just got a glimpse and reminder of what springtime is.

We are very excited about our new cheerleaders for the 1999-2000 school year. There were about 39 girls who went out for cheerleader, which must have made the decision much harder for the judges.

The new squad members are Bonnie Ferguson, Claya Calley, Tamera Henry, Jamie Smith, Haley Griffin, Kayla Wells, Blair Griffin, Jill Plyler, Tracy Coplen, Andi Finley, Lacey Jester and Taylor Pace. The junior high mascot is Cody Quillin. Congratulations to each of you.

We have had some of our students turn in books as they are moving and it is always disappointing when we have that happen. However, we have had new students come into our school, which we are always glad and happy to have happen. It is so interesting watching the students make their farewells and then watching new friendships being made.

The eighth grade graduation plans are well underway. The students who choose to participate have had the measurements for their cap and gown completed. They selected purple cap and gown with gold tassel. The top five students in the seventh grade will serve as ushers and they will wear the old gold color cap and gown with purple tassel. The ushers are Robyn LeMay, Lindette Kadiri, Natika Briscoe, Jill Plyler and Takia Williams.

The sponsors of the Beta Club and CMS Student Council have been working to make this graduation a very special event for these students. Already several seventh graders are talking about their graduation next year with excitement.

We have benches! That may not sound very exciting, but our students have needed places to sit while outside. Through a grant from the CONE Foundation, 11 benches have been purchased. The only problem, they have to be assembled. We will get that done just as soon as possible.

Many of our former students are in Washington, D.C., this week for the Close-Up program. We are so proud of each of them and looking forward to hearing about their experiences in our nations capital.

Believe it or not, Ashley Hulan is back on the crutches. Also, Robyn LeMay has an arm in a sling. These two have been able to go for quite some time without injuries and we were so proud of them. The stories of what happened are 'very sad.' we love both of these students and just try to make sure they are comfortable during the day, as they need that TLC.

Thanks to you our readers and supporters of Cabe Middle School. Stay in touch with us as we continue to make those Classy Moments at CMS.
