Date change for Chamber Christmas Parade

Don't forget to come out and enjoy this year's Gurdon Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade to be held on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 6 p.m.

The theme for this year's parade is "The Gifts of Christmas".

The parade was originally scheduled to be on Tuesday, December 16, but due to scheduling conflicts with high school basketball games, it was decided to move it down a couple of days.

Several floats have been entered into parade so far and many more are expected to enter before long.

Musical entertainment will start at 5 p.m. with Christina Daniels kicking it off with several Christmas songs. Daniels will be followed up by Jill Plyler and many more who are showing off Gurdon's talent.

The entertainment will end at 6 p.m. when the parade will make it's way down Main Street.

Anyone interested in participating in the pre-parade entertainment can call Autumn Pennington at (870) 230-2142.

Also, don't forget this year's new "Special Edition" Christmas ornament being sold by the Chamber. This year's ornament will be Gloss Champagne Beige and will have a picture of the Hoo-Hoo Museum on the front with it's title and the year the Hoo-Hoo was founded. On the back of the ornament it will read "Gurdon Chamber of Commerce, 2003, First Edition. These ornaments will be available for purchase at the local banks as well as other Chamber member locations. They will also be for sale the day of the parade. Cost for each ornament is $10.

The Chamber encourages all churches, cheerleaders, and other groups or organizations are encouraged to set up booths and sell refreshments.

Close-Up students will be selling chances at a Christmas quilt and an eight-foot toy filled stocking to be given away that night. Other organizations and groups are expected to join in.

Gift certificates will be given away the day of the parade to be spent in a Chamber members business. Gift certificates will range from $100, $50 and another $50 gift. The certificates must be used at a Chamber business.

Prize money for parade entries will be given as follows: floats will be eligible for prize money ranging from $150, $100 and $75. Vehicles will also be judge and can receive $50, $40 or $30. ATV's and Bicycles will be judged in the same category, but winners will receive $20, $15 or $10 depending on their place. Motorcycles will also be judged and will receive $35, $25, and $20.

There is no entry fee for any parade entry's.
