Jim Wingfield

Mr. Jim L. Wingfield, 74, of Prescott, departed at home on Tuesday, November 25, 2003.

He was born June 24, 1929, in Okolona, to James Bert and Eva Lois Hammons Wingfield.

He graduated from Okolona High School, and received his BS in Agriculture, majoring in animal science at Oklahoma A&M, and his Masters in Agricultural Education from the University of Arkansas.

Jim's military service included four years, 1953-1957, two years over Sea Sac Air Command, 3rd Air Force in England. He was a member of the Prescott VFW Post 8671. Jim was a Master Mason for 50 years, plus 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Prescott Lodge #80. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Prescott and attended the First United Methodist Church, Prescott.

Jim was a sportsman, lover of the outdoors and enjoyed fly-fishing to the extreme. He tied all his own flies and could teach every aspect of the sport to any and everyone who had a desire to learn.

Teaching was a favorite occupation of Jim's and he even became superintendent of his own hometown high school. He was an excellent wood craftsman passing on some of his fine skills to his grandsons.

His love for knowledge never wavered nor his interest to pass it on to others. His light would shine the brightest when bending the ear of a compliant soul seeking to better themself with higher education.

Jim spent his last days enjoying his cattle farm, gardening, tinkering with his old tractors and dreaming about the trout just waiting below the deep hole, in the riffle along the river. Believing that on the river you can find solitude without loneliness.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lewell Mae Wingfield; one son, Mike Wingfield; and one sister, Jean Luck.

His survivors include: his wife, Donna Taylor Wingfield of Prescott; three sons, Cole Wingfield of Okolona, Clay Wingfield and Betty of Prescott and Bert Wingfield and Donna of Hope; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wingfield of Green Bay, Wisc.; two step-daughters, Yvonne Fry and Angie Kidd, both of Hope; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Givins and Jason of Hot Springs; Matt Wingfield and Kim of Prescott; Lauren, Abby, Brett Wingfield of Green Bay; Amber, Whitney Wingfield of Hope; Will, Patrick and Eric Wingfield of Prescott; two step-granddaughters, Kristen and Lakyn Kidd of Hope; and two great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Wingfield and Reese Givens.

I'm sure it is safe to say Jim felt his biggest achievement was fathering four fine sons. One of his biggest losses would be that he lost a child, his oldest son, Mike. We can all take comfort in knowing, Jim is experiencing a joyous reunion in Heaven.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2003, at First Christian Church, Prescott, with Rev. Jerry G. Westmoreland and Rev. Jim Lenderman officiating. Masonic graveside rites by Prescott Lodge #80 followed at Antoine Cemetery, Antoine. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
