Local football fans got their moneys worth as the Prescott Curley Wolves advanced to round two of the state playoffs with a 17-8 win over Dollarway.

There was everything a fan could want: tough defensive play, lightning strikes on offense, brutal hits and a win by the home team.

While the Cardinals now look toward basketball season, the Wolves are looking at a trip to North Little Rock and a date with the Central Arkansas Christian Mustangs Friday, Nov. 21.

The Wolves showed the ability to overcome adversity and make plays on both sides of the ball when the need arose.

All 25 points were scored in the first half, but the drama continued until the final curtain fell on Dollarway's season at the end of the game.

The game started with the Cards winning the toss and returning the kick to the 25.

At this point, the visitors met Prescott's defense and lost five yards on three plays. The Cards punted to the Wolf 45 with 10:19 left in the first quarter.

Prescott went to the air immediately, with Zach Martin connecting with A.J. Lewis for a three-yard gain. But, a holding penalty on the next play moved the Wolves back 10 yards from the spot of the foul. This put Prescott at its 44.

Martin went back to the air, this time finding Jason Butler, who fought to the Card 43. The Wolves managed to get to the 38 before the drive stalled and Prescott turned the ball over on downs with 7:55 showing.

Dollarway began its only scoring drive of the night with quarterback Jonathan Moore rambling to the Wolf 39 on first down.

From there, the Wolves were fed a steady diet of Cody Burns, who carried five times and scored on a nine-yard run with 4:19 remaining in the opening period. The two-point conversion made it 8-0 Dollarway.

Prescott began at its 31 and managed seven yards in three plays before punting to the Cards. Demondre Burton returned the ball to the Card 35.

Dollarway ran three plays, gaining six yards and lined up to punt as period one came to an end.

The second quarter began with the punt rolling dead at the Prescott 32.

But, it was three and out for the Wolves as the offense couldn't get started and punted to the Dollarway three.

Moore went to the air on first down, only to be intercepted by Lewis at the Card 33 with 8:33 showing.

It appeared as though the Wolves were on the verge of scoring, but this didn't turn out to be the case as Prescott was hit with a procedure penalty on first down, followed by Martin being sacked at the Card 43.

Two incomplete passes later the Wolves punted to the Dollarway one.

Ronald Murphy moved the ball a yard on first down, but was caught in the end zone for a safety on the next play. With 6:27 left in the half Prescott was now on the board with the score 8-2.

But, with the safety, the Wolves also got the ball. Eli Ratcliff fielded the punt at the Prescott 48, returning it to the Dollarway 39.

Thus began Prescott's first touchdown drive of the night. The Wolves overcame a procedure penalty on second down when Tristan Stuart gained eight yards and Butler brought down a Martin pass at the Card 28.

The next three plays netted nine yards, before the Wolves went to Butler again, who literally carried half the Dollarway defense to the 14 to keep the drive alive. Butler ran the ball two more times, capping the drive with a 12-yard run for the score.

Fufa's point after made it 9-8 Prescott, and the Wolves never looked back.

The kick was returned to the 30, where Moore fumbled on first down. Prescott recovered at the Card 33 and needed only one play to finish scoring for the night.

Martin found Lewis behind the Cardinal secondary for Prescott's second touchdown in less than 30 seconds.

The Wolves used a little razzle-dazzle on the two point conversion, with Martin handing off to Lewis, who hit Ray Smith in the end zone to make it 17-8.

Burton fumbled the kickoff, but picked the ball up at the Card two. However, in so doing, his knee touched and the ball was called down by the officials.

Two plays later, halftime arrived.

The game was far from over when the third quarter began. Prescott started at its 26 after the kick.

The Wolves relied heavily on Butler in moving to the Dollarway 28, but saw the drive end on a fumble recovered by the Cards with 8:21 left in the third.
