Every Gurdon senior player took the field at Go-Devil Stadium as a captain for the opening kickoff of what would be their last game played in a purple and gold jersey.

Gurdon fell to the Glen Rose Beavers 22-21 in a heartbreaking first round playoff upset.

Gurdon won the toss and elected to receive. Junior Hunter Johnson returned the kick to the 33 to start the game.

Jamelle Lacy carried the ball five yards on first down. He added another yard the following down and a quarterback keeper by Barry Nolan brought up a fourth and short situation. The Devils decided to go for it and Lacy picked up the first down and then some.

Sophomore running back Camron Kennedy got his first carry of the game and picked up 15 yards. Lacy was dropped in the backfield on the following play, but that failed to stop Gurdon's momentum. The Devils struck with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Nolan to Davion Williams. Kicker Robert Plyler booted through the extra point to put the score at 7-0.

Glen Rose did not back down and answered right back with a score of its own.

Runningback Anthony Ballance ran the ball for two short gains to start their drive. Quarterback Clint Hattabough connected with Ballance on the third play for a 64-yard touchdown. The Beavers tried to fake the extra point, but failed and Go-Devils kept the lead, 7-6.

Gurdon downed the ball at its 21 to start the Devils's next drive.

The Devils produced a couple of first downs on the ground, but were eventually were forced to punt.

Glen Rose took over, but the Devils stepped up the defense. Brandon Sanders and C.J. Stroder picked up a sack on Hattabough who was hurried many times during the drive. A fourth and nine situation forced the Beavers to punt.

After the punt rolled out Hunter Johnson took the run for a short gain to end the first quarter.

Gurdon opened the second quarter with a drive full of smash mouth football. The Devils took the ball 42 yards on 11 rushing plays to set up a quarterback sneak by Nolan for the score. Lacy took the ball in for the two-point conversion and the score was 15-6.

Glen Rose returned the ball to the 30 on the ensuing kickoff.

Runningback Jonathon Hill took the ball 47 yards and the Beavers were knocking on Gurdon's door again. However, an interception by Kentrell Green stopped the threat.

The Go-Devils were backed up deep in Gurdon territory and could not get the ball moving, and were forced to punt.

The ball rolled out at the Gurdon 46, where the Beavers took over.

The Go-Devil defense again showed just how tough it could be. Hill was stopped for a short gain. Next Ben Gooding got the quarterback for a sack, and finally Marcel Johnson took an interception back more than 50 yards for another Gurdon touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, but the Go-Devils appeared to be solidly in control with a 21-6 lead when the half ended.

Glen Rose started the first drive of the third quarter with some trickery.

On a third and nine situation runningback Brad Wilson took the handoff, but then passed the ball to Hattabough, the quarterback for an 18-yard gain. Ballance then took the ball for 27 more yards on the ground. Two plays later the Beavers scored and converted on the two-point attempt, bringing the score to 21-14.

The momentum seemed to shift and Gurdon's next drive was filled with botched plays and short gains until the Devils were forced to punt.

Glen Rose took over at its 12 where the Beavers went three and out.

After the punt, Gurdon took over on the Glen Rose 43.

Gurdon returned the favor after three plays and the Beavers took over as the fourth quarter began.

The Devils would not give an inch and forced Glen Rose to punt once more.

The Beaver's defense was just as tough though, and Gurdon again had to punt.

Glen Rose immediately started moving as the drive started. Hill took the ball 20 yards on the second play of the drive. Ballance then took control of the game as he ran seven straight times for 50 yards and a touchdown. The Beavers drew Gurdon offsides on the two-point attempt to put them half the distance to the goal. This set up the go-ahead score, which put Glen Rose up 22-21, with less than six minutes left in the game.

Though Gurdon tried desperately to get back in the game, the Devils could not.

Gurdon went three and out on the first drive and punted.

The Beavers took valuable time off of the clock before punting back to the Devils.

Gurdon started its last drive on the Devil 25 with just 1:32 left in the game.

Nolan was sacked and after two incomplete passes, Glen Rose got possession and ended the game along with the Go-Devils's season by downing the ball.
