Dorotha Franks

Dortha Franks, 81, of Prescott, passed away November 7, 2003 at Hillcrest Nursing Center.

She was born March 4, 1922, near Prescott to Edgar and Mary B. Smith, but grew up in Deming, New Mexico.

She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1942 from the Masonic Hospital School of Nursing. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII and after. Her tours of duty included various stateside locations plus Korea, Hawaii and the U.S. Hospital Ship Hope. After the death of her husband, J.B. Franks, she continued to operate his various business ventures in Prescott. She subsequently returned to nursing, serving as the Director of Nurses at the Nevada County Hospital and the County Health Nurse for Nevada County, where she retired in 1984.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Lindy Franks, and Roscoe and Anne Franks, all of Prescott; grandsons, Robbie Franks and Andy Franks, both of Prescott; and granddaughter, Lindsay Weeks and husband Peyton Weeks of Natchitoches, La.

A graveside service was held Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. at DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott, the services being officiated by Rev. Jim Lenderman of the First United Methodist Church of Prescott. Visitation was November 7, 2003, between 6-8 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Korean War Veterans Memorial, 900 Ohio Drive, SW, Washington, D.C. 20024, or your favorite charity.
