"Gifts of Christmas" theme for Chamber paradeBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, November 5, 2003 in the Gurdon Times As decided by the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade committee, the theme for this year's parade is "The Gifts of Christmas". This year the parade will be held in the middle of the week in hopes that more can participate. It is scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at 6 p.m. Musical entertainment will start at 5 p.m. and ending at 6 o'clock. Entertainment will be from local entertainers. Anyone interested in participating in the pre-parade entertainment can call Autumn Pennington at (870) 230-2142. Gurdon Primary School students will be given the opportunity to draw a picture depicting this year's theme. The drawings will be judged and the winners will be placed in the window of US Bank. However, the committee has decided not sell t-shirts with the first place winners picture on it. Instead it has decided to start an annual "Special Edition" Gurdon Christmas ornament for all to collect each year. This year's ornament will be Gloss Champagne Beige and will have a picture of the Hoo-Hoo Museum on the front with it's title and the year the Hoo-Hoo was founded. On the back of the ornament it will read "Gurdon Chamber of Commerce, 2003, First Edition. These ornaments will be available for purchase at the local banks as well as other Chamber member locations. They will also be on sale the day of the parade. Cost for each ornament is $10. The Chamber would also like to encourage all churches, cheerleaders, and other groups or organizations are encouraged to set up booths and sell refreshments. Gift-certificates will be given away the day of the parade to be spent in a Chamber member's business. Gift certificates will range from $100, $50 and another $50 gift. The certificates must be used at a Chamber business. This year the committee asks anyone having a parade entry, to stop in front of the judges in order to be judged. Otherwise they will not be considered and can't win. Upon meeting the Chamber also reconsidered the prize money for each category and this is what they decided. Floats will be eligible for prize money ranging from $150, $100 and $75. Vehicles will also be judge and can receive $50, $40 or $30. ATV's and bicycles will be judged in the same category, but winners will receive $20, $15 or $10 depending on their place. Motorcycles will also be judged and will receive $35, $25, and $20. There is no entry fee for any parade entry's. For more information call (870) 353-2831. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
