Chamber prepares for Christmas season

"The Gifts of Christmas" is this year's theme for the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade to be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at 6 p.m.

The parade committee, consisting of Jon Capps, Laurie Pilgreen, Connie Wells, Michelle Anderson, Autumn Pennington and Rev. Willis O'Connell, met on Monday, October 20, at Allen's BBQ.

The committee decided on the parade time, date and theme. Musical entertainment will be before the parade this year, beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. Entertainment will be from local entertainers.

Anyone interested in participating in the pre-parade entertainment can call Autumn Pennington at (870) 230-2142.

The committee choose Al Brown as the parades Grand Marshal this year. Brown will lead the parade through downtown.

The Gurdon Primary School students will be given the opportunity to draw a picture depicting this year's theme. The drawings will be judged and the winners will be placed in the window of US Bank, and the first place winner will have his or her picture printed on the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade T-shirts that will go on sale before the parade and also sold at the area banks and Chamber member officers.

Churches, cheerleaders, and other groups or organizations are encouraged to set up booths and sell refreshments.

Gift-certificates will be given away the day of the parade to be spent in a Chamber member's business. Gift certificates will range from $100, $50 and another $50 gift. The certificates must be used at a Chamber business.

This year the committee asks anyone having a parade entry, must stop in front of the judges in order to be judged. Otherwise they will not be considered.

Floats will be eligible for prize money ranging from $100, $75 and $50. Vehicles will also be judge and can receive $50, $40 or $30. ATV's and Bicycles will be judged in the same category, but winners will receive $20, $15 or $10 depending on their place.

There is no entry for any parade entry's.
