Nellie Merritt

Nellie Wilson Merritt, 73, of Camden, a retired elementary teacher after 32 years in the Fairview Schools, died Wednesday.

She was a faithful member of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of Camden for 51 years, during which she served for 31 years as the ladies adult Sunday School teacher. Her victorious faith enabled her to remain strong through the difficult days of her illness.

She was a faithful wife for almost 52 years, a loving mother and grandmother.

Born January 18, 1930, near Waldron, she was the oldest of six children of Bea and Dortha Altstatt Wilson.

She is survived by her husband, Charles P. (Bug) Merritt; two sons, Charles Richard, Sr. and wife, Marvanna and David Lynn and wife, Sally; three grandchildren, Chuck Merritt, Staci Sewell and husband Steven, and Holli; one brother, Herman Wilson and wife, Pam, and three sisters, Retha Faye Wiley and husband, Jim, Alice Lampkin and husband, Glen Wayne, and Debbie Chandler and husband, Eddie.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbra Jean Lampkin.

Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Camden, by Bro. Steven Sewell and Bro. David Johnson, with interment at Crain Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday night 6-8 p.m. at Proctor Funeral Home of Camden.
