A city-wide cleanup will be held Saturday, Oct. 11.

This event is sponsored by the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce's Beautification Committee and will be from 9-11 a.m. Chamber Director Mary Godwin said there will be a contest to see which teams can collect the most trash by weight. Teams can be two to 15 people.

The teams will meet at the Bank of Prescott parking lot, where the participants will be given trash bags and plastic gloves. The teams can work in any part of town they want.

All teams are to report back to the parking lot at 11 a.m. for the weigh-in. The team picking up the most garbage will receive $75 in cash. Second place gets $50, while the third place team will be presented $25.

The first 50 people to register, Godwin said, will be given a free T-shirt.

In addition, when the trash is brought back to the parking lot, the participants will be given coupons for lunch at a local restaurant. However, these coupons must be redeemed by Sunday, Oct. 12.

For those people needing to get rid of large items, such as appliances, Godwin said they should call the Chamber at 887-2101. The Chamber will get city crews to come by and pick the items up.

"We're encouraging everyone to clean up around their home," Godwin said. "We're trying to get all tidied up for winter."

Civic groups, churches and youth groups, among others, are invited to participate in the clean up.

Godwin said someone from the Chamber will be at the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. for people to register.
