Jesse PhelpsPublished Wednesday, October 1, 2003 in the Nevada County PicayuneMrs. Jesse Gatlin Phelps, 79, of Prescott, passed away in a Hope hospital after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, September 27, 2003. She was born in El Dorado on February 4, 1924, to Elijah and Claudia P. Murphy Gatlin. She was a nurse's aide. She was a long time resident of Prescott after returning from Oregon, where her husband of 33 years, Patrick Phelps, Sr., passed away. She was also preceded in death by one son, Alan; baby Wesson; one daughter, Gale Clarke; three brothers, Sonny, Luther, and Larry Gatlin; and one sister, Eva Kelly. She is survived by 11 children: Douglas Wesson, Wilburn Wesson, Lonnie Wesson, and Peggy Holt all of Prescott; Patrick Phelps, Jr. of Conway; Rudy Wesson and Michael Phelps of Salem, Oregon; David Phelps of Phoenix, Arizona; Daniel Phelps of Midland, Texas; and James Wesson of Altamont, Illinois; four sisters, Virginia Brownlee-Cheney, Earline Strickland, Reva Grober, and Jeanie May all of Arkansas; and scores of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and loving friends. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Rev. Bob Fruen officiating. Graveside services were 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Traskwood Cemetery in Traskwood. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
