Weather oddly mild for August this yearBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, September 10, 2003 in the Nevada County Picayune August was both warm and cool, with five days of rain, according to local weather watcher Phillip McAdams. McAdams said the highest the mercury climbed was 96 degrees on Aug. 19-21, while the lowest it hit was 66 on Aug. 12. Prescott, he said, received 3.61 inches of rain during the month. The first measurable rainfall occurred on Aug. 2, when 0.13 inch fell. The heaviest rains came on Aug. 11, when 2.26 inches fell between 1-1:30 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Otherwise, less than an inch of rain fell on any given day during the month. However, August did end with 0.35 inch, which fell in a 15-minute period from 8-8:15 p.m. Davis Benton, Cale meteorologist, said the southern part of the county received 3.79 inches of rain for the month. This, he said, brings the year-to-date total to 25.03 inches, still about 10 inches below normal for the first eight months of the year. In discussing temperature, McAdams said the average daily high was 90 degrees during August, while the average daily low was 70. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
