Hollis CarmanPublished Wednesday, September 10, 2003 in the Nevada County PicayuneHollis H. Carman, 80, of Haskell, died Wednesday, August 27, at his home. He was born February 6, 1923, in Blevins, to the late William Samual and Nora Ollie Head Carman. Mr. Carman was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he had served in the European Theater of Operations, and was the recipient of four bronze stars. Mr. Carman was an avid gardener and he was a strong Christian and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, and retired after 35 years as an LPTN at Benton Services Center. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Hollis Carman; three brothers, Sylvester, Lawrence and William "Mutt" Carman; three sisters, Viola Griffin, Martell Fowler, and Dorothy Osborne. His is survived by his wife, Minnie Bryson Carman of Haskell; son, Roy H. Carman and Lee of Haskell; granddaughters, Elizabeth Lee of Haskell and Amber Carman of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; brother-in-law and his wife, Wayland and Sue Bryson of Benton, ans sister-in-laws, Betty and Irving Gray of Arlington, Tex. and Gertrude Carman of Malvern. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2003, at First Church of the Nazarene with Dave Carlson and Bro. Carl Wright officiating. Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047) was in charge of arrangements. Interment followed in Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Haskell with military honors provided by the Thaddeus H. Carraway VFW Post # 2278. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2003, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, the American Cancer Society, or Arkansas Children's Hospital.
