James WingfieldPublished Wednesday, September 3, 2003 in the Gurdon TimesJames W. Wingfield, born, July 10, 1919, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Wingfield went to heaven to be with our Lord Jesus on August 27, 2003. He is survived by his wife; Vanette Wingfield, on daughter, Sherron Cutrer, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers Tomas Wingfield and Phillip Wingfield both of Gurdon and Ray Neil of Texarkana, Tex. and one sister, Dixie Wingfield of Benton. Mr. Wingfield served in the U.S. Army from June 13, 1941, to December 29, 1945, fought in the Philippines, New Guinea and Luzon with Company B, 63rd Infantry, 60th Division as a weapons platoon sergeant. Medals received: Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Victory and Good Conduct Medal, American Theater, American Defense Service, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with two bronze stars and bronze arrowhead and the Philippines Liberation Medal. Funeral services were Saturday at 10 a.m. at Center Grove United Methodist Church with interment at the Center Ridge Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home.
