County fair starts Sept. 9

Patriotism still abounds in Clark County.

Two years ago the September 11 attacks on the United States rocked everyone living in this "Land of the Free".

It does happened that the week it occurred was also the week of the Clark County Fair.

For the following two years, the fair has had a patriotic theme. last year was "Let Freedom Ring" and this year it is "Land of the Free".

Events for the fair will begin on Friday, September 5, with the deadline for entries of the Pee Wee Livestock Show to be held on Saturday, September 13. Registration deadline for the show participants is at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 6, will the Clark County Fair Queen Pageant at Peake Elementary. The pageant will begin at 4 p.m. with admission costs being $5.

The actual fair will kick off on Tuesday September 9, with the carnival opening at 6 p.m. This will be armband night. Advanced armbands will be available for purchase.

Other armband nights will be on Wednesday and Thursday.

All livestock, poultry and rabbits must be registered by 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Educational booths will be set up on Tuesday night along with the usual entertainment and dance in the commercial building at 7 p.m. A horse show will also take place on Tuesday night at 8 p.m.

The Pretty Baby photo contestants must be registered by on Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Ornamental plants, flowers, baked goods, Horticulture and farm crops must be registered between 8 a.m. and noon.

Fine Arts must be registered between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The annual Fair Parade will begin at 5 on Main Street.

Swine, sheep and goats will be judged starting at 6:30 p.m.

The rodeo will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the 4-H Poultry sale will begin at 10 a.m.

It will be followed with the George T. Sharp Junior Livestock Sale beginning at 10:30 a.m. An appreciation luncheon will be held afterward for buyers.
