Lois Smith

Lois Joplin (Pet) (Peppie) Smith, 91, of Hot Springs formerly of Arkadelphia, died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at her home.

She was born February 7, 1912, in Mena, the daughter of John and Ola Joplin.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Association, Rotary Ann and a charter member of Prudance Hall Daughter's of American Revolution. She was the widow of J. Ed Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Claudette Smith Ford of Hot Springs; two grandsons, Tom Ed Ford and his wife, Amy of Hot Springs and Roger Smith Ford and his wife, Alyson of Roland; three great-grandsons, Lucas Edward Ford, Tyler Smith Ford and Alexander Tom Ford; two half brothers, John Edward Joplin of Sallisaw, Oklahoma and Bill Joplin of Jacksonville.

Graveside services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation was 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
