July a wet, yet comfortable month

Oddly enough, the area is still below normal in rainfall for the year, in spite of the wetter than usual summer.

Davis Benton, Cale meteorologist, said the south part of the county received 1.20 inches of rain in July bringing the annual total to 22.24 inches. But, he added, this is about 10 inches below the norm for the first seven months of the year.

While Cale received 1.20 inches of rain, the Prescott area was drenched with 3.72 inches, according to weather watcher Phillip McAdams.

McAdams said the largest single day's total was 1.73 inches on July 19. The odd part about this is the rain fell in a three hour period from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

The 24-hour period from July 10-11, saw 1.25 inches fall, while 0.70 inch fell on July 30-31. The remaining 0.02 inch fell in brief showers on July 1 and 22.

While it got hot during the month, it wasn't as warm as July tends to get in Prescott. McAdams said the mercury climbed to 94 degrees on July 29. Benton said the thermometer reached triple digits at 100.

According to Benton, the low for the month in Cale was 64. McAdams agreed with this temperature for Prescott's low.

McAdams said the average daily high was 89, while the average daily low was 71 degrees.
