Devil band ready to rockBY AUTUMN PENNINGTONPublished Wednesday, August 13, 2003 in the Gurdon Times Allen Wimberly, Gurdon High School Band Director, expressed his enthusiasm about this year's band program and the music they have chosen to perform this season. Wimberly said this year's halftime shows will be filled with the sounds of Three Dog Night, a rock band from the 70's. Songs to be heard are Jeremiah was a Bullfrog, One is the Loneliest Number and many more. Wimberly said he recently attended an Arkansas Band Association conference where a high school marching band from Japan performed. "It was amazing. These kids were outstanding. I have never heard anything like what they played come from a high school band," said Wimberly. Wimberly said music is a important part of culture in Japan. Although band is not offered during regular school hours. If children wish to participate in band they join an after school band club and practice for three hours a day on their music.
