Rev. Calvin HughesPublished Wednesday, July 16, 2003 in the Gurdon TimesRev. Calvin Eugene Hughes, 73, of Gurdon, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003. Mr. Hughes served as pastor for churches in Arkansas and Louisiana for 42 years and was a member of Center Point Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Margie Hughes of Gurdon; daughters, Audrey Purdy and husband, Johnny of Dewitt, Alice Day and husband, Alan of Edmond, Okla., and Anita White and husband, Doug of Zwolle, La.; brothers, Merlon Hughes of LaFitte, La., Andy Hughes and Charles Hughes, both of Arkadelphia, and Floyd Hughes of Hastings, Mich.; sisters, Delcie McAvoy of Hot Springs, Norma Bass and Fannie B. Ogle, both of Magnolia, and Iona Peterson of Camden; nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services Saturday, July 5, at Horne Chapel with Rev. Floyd Hughes, Rev. Doug White, Dr. Alan Day officiating. Burial in DeRoche Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon. Memorial to Center Point Baptist Church or Baptist Hospice of Arkadelphia.
