Independence Day took on a different meaning for an inmate of the Nevada County Jail.

Around 8:30 a.m., Friday, July 4, when the prisoners were put into the yard for exercise, one, Sedric Martell McKillion, escaped by climbing over the fence, according to Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell.

McKillion was in jail having been charged with theft of property, commercial burglary and breaking or entering in connection with the theft of car stereos from Ashbrook Auto Sales in Prescott.

Otwell said McKillion is a 19-year-old black male, six feet tall, weighing 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes and "built for speed".

"I don't think he's a threat to anyone's safety," Otwell said. "He visited a house south of the Sheriff's Office where a female acquaintance lives, but was ran off."

From there, Otwell said, McKillion fled in an unknown direction.

Four officers with the Prescott Police Department, six with the NCSO and two officers with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were involved in the search.

The escape ended when McKillion returned Saturday afternoon and turned himself in. However, he had to appear before a judge and be charged with escape, a felony offense.
