Oscar HopsonPublished Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in the Nevada County PicayuneRev. Oscar Hopson, 88, of Prescott, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope. He was born April 15, 1915, in Sutton, to Joe and Ruthie Anthony Hopson. He was retired after 20 years from Potlatch as a night foreman and millwright. He was a member of the Mt. Ephesus Baptist Church in Prescott and remained faithful until his health failed. He was a Mason and Worshipful Master of Evergreen Lodge #20, and a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was married to Ola Flemons on October 29, 1932, and she preceded him in death in 2000. Also preceding him were two brothers, five sisters and one grandson. He lived at all times in keeping with the high standards set for him by his Master. We love you Daddy, but God loved you more. He reached down into His garden and picked the best rose. Survivors include: five sons, Steve Hopson and Juanita of Compton, Calif., Herman Hopson and Juanita of Moreno, Calif., Homer Hopson and Edna of Waldo, Charles Hopson and Carol of Compton, and Napoleon Hopson of Prescott; three daughters, Mary Spearman and Wanda Jones both of Prescott, and Betty Howell and Cleotis of Cerritos, Calif.; one brother, Joe Ben Hopson of Richmond, Calif.; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Mt. Ephesus Baptist Church in Prescott with Rev. Fred Walters officiating. Burial followed in Laneburg Cemetery. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. A wake was held Friday, June 13, 2003, from 6-8 p.m. at the Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home.
