Bessie Clevenger

Mrs. Bessie Hamilton Clevenger, 95, of Bodcaw, died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.

She was born March 17, 1908, in Emmet to Albert and Gertrude Purtle Hamilton.

She was a former dietician in the Virginia School System and a ship fitter in Houston, Texas. She was the oldest member of Union Baptist Church of Bodcaw.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Clevenger, who died in October 1999, and by her granddaughter, Denise Burton.

Her survivors include: one son, David Albert Clevenger of Gaithersburg, Maryland; one daughter, Naomi Reynolds of Kingston, Georgia; one brother, James Hamilton of Pinole, California; two sisters, Myrtle Sutton of Hope and Betty Harper of Bridge City, Texas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Union Baptist Church in Bodcaw, with Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery in Bodcaw. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

Family received friends Saturday, May 17, 2003, from 1-2 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church in Bodcaw prior to the service.
