T-shirts for the 16th Annual Chicken and Egg Festival are in, with orders being taken.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, said the shirts will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with the exception of XXL and XXXL shirts, which will be $11 each.

The children's sizes are 6-8, 10-12 and 14-16, with the adult sizes being small, medium, large and extra large.

The design was drawn by Nancy Nigh Barham, and will be on stone colored shirts.

Godwin is encouraging all businesses to have their employees wear the shirts on Fridays from now until the festival.

The festival, she said, will be held Friday and Saturday, June 6-7, at the Prescott City Park.

It will kick off at 5 p.m. with the Rotary Club's Chicken in the Rough Dinner at the pavilion.

Tickets for the dinner will be $6 each and can be purchased from any club member. The dinner will be from 5-7 p.m.

Godwin said local and other food vendors have already signed up for the festival, though there are spots open for arts and crafts booths. Local artisans are encouraged to contact the Chamber about having a booth there.

The annual variety show will take place on the festival stage from 5-9 p.m. This event showcases the talent of local and area individuals and groups. Godwin said anyone knowing of talented people should encourage them to come and perform.

Each performer or group will be given at least 15 minutes on stage.

The festival will again feature the Little Mr. Rooster and Little Miss Hen Pageant. This has turned into one of the most popular events, as the younger participants get to strut their stuff on-stage.

There has been a change in the chicken and egg cooking contest, Godwin said. This year, instead of there being two separate events with different divisions, and the cooks picking their own recipes, there will be one division.

Those entering will be required to cook a chicken casserole. It can be any kind of chicken casserole, but it must be a casserole containing chicken as the primary ingredient.

The younger festival goers will enjoy learning the train ride will be back. This is one of the most popular things for children to do, as they get to ride around the park on a "train" pulled by an all-terrain vehicle.

And, the old favorites will be back as well. This includes the 5-k run-walk, the softball tournament, tennis tournament, 3-on-3 basketball tourney and the horseshoe contest.

Anyone planning on having a team or participating in any of the athletic events should contact the Chamber and register as soon as possible.
