GHS announces top 10 students for 2003Published Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in the Gurdon TimesThe principal of Gurdon High School, Leonard Gills, announces the top 10 academic seniors of 2003. The Valedictorians for the class of 2003 are Claya Calley, Lacey Jester, and Jake Plyler. Calley is the daughter of Bob and Lori Calley of Gurdon. She has received the University Scholarship from Henderson State University. Calley's plans are to attend HSU in the fall and begin her work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of nursing. Jester is the daughter of Grady and Becky Jester of Gurdon. Jester is the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship from the University of Central Arkansas and Henderson State University. She plans to attend UCA in the fall but her major is still undecided. Jake Plyler is the son of Gary and Wendy Plyler of Gurdon. Plyler has received a Dean's Scholarship from the University of Central Arkansas and a Scholastic Excellence Scholarship and a Tiger Network Scholarship from Ouachita Baptist University. He plans to attend either OBU or UCA this fall and major in the field of accounting. Salutatorian is Keith Reed. Reed is the son of Gene and Cheryl Reed of Gurdon. He has received the Presidential Scholarship from Henderson State University. Reed also has received scholarships from Ouachita Baptist University and The Colorado School of Mines. His major will be chemistry and physics, however, at this time he is undecided where he will attend college this fall. The remaining top 10 for the class of 2003 include: Rebecca Stephens, who plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas where she has received the Academic Achievement Scholarship. Bonnie Ferguson will be attending Henderson State University, where she received the Award of Achievement Scholarship. Cody Quillin will be attending the University of Arkansas at Hope Community College where he has received a full tuition scholarship. Andrea Finley will be attending Henderson State University. Christina Taylor plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas, where she received the Dean's Scholarship. Kelly Jo Runyan will be attending Ouachita Baptist University where she is the recipient of the Red River Baptist Associational, the Tiger Network, and an OBU Band Scholarships.
