Broken headlight leads to drug bustBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 9, 2003 in the Nevada County Picayune An attempt to run from a sheriff's deputy resulted in two men being arrested on drug charges. According to court records, Nevada County deputy Larry Miller was on patrol with reserve deputy Joe Dorman when they attempted to stop a 1983 Chevrolet pickup with a headlight out in Emmet. The driver, Daryl Taylor, 43, wouldn't stop and ran a stop sign at Prescott and Main while officers were following the truck. As the truck turned onto Prescott, the passenger, Danny Robinson, 29, jumped out and started running from the officers. Robinson was caught a few minutes later, while Taylor was stopped by reserve deputy Mike Otwell. According to reports, when Taylor emptied his pockets onto the hood of his truck the contents included a watch box with a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, two plastic pencil lead containers with an off-white substance thought to be methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to smoke, snort and inject methamphetamine with. Taylor was placed under arrest, and the truck searched. The search revealed items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. According to the court records, Taylor told the officers he and Robinson were going to Robinson's mother's home and had the meth ingredients with them in case they wanted to make a batch while they were there. They were charged with manufacturing a controlled substance. This is a class Y felony, punishable by 10-40 years or life in prison and a fine not to exceed $25,000. They were also charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a class C felony, punishable by 3-10 years in the penitentiary and a fine up to $10,000. Additionally, they were charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, a class D felony, which carries up to six years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
