Here comes Peter Cottontail well, sort of.

Actually, it's time for the 9th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt will be Saturday, April 19, at the Potlatch building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Chamber, said there will be four divisions for the hunters again this year. Those divisions are for children 1-2, 3-4, 5-7 and 8-9.

The 1-2-year-old hunters will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the 3-4 group at 10:30. Those children aged 5-7 will hunt at 11 o'clock, with the festivities finishing up at 11:30 with the 8-9-year-olds.

Each egg will have some sort of prize inside, but there will be even more goodies available for those hunting the eggs. Godwin said there will be about 450 bigger prizes (stuffed animals and bags of candy) to be won by those searching for eggs.

And, in each age division there will be one golden egg hidden. Whoever finds the golden eggs will win a large stuffed Easter Bunny.

In all, Godwin said, there will be about 2,600 eggs hidden.

But, there will be more to do than just hunt Easter eggs. Inside the Potlatch building there will be plenty of different games to keep the hunters occupied until it's their turn to seek the treasures outside.

There will be face painting available for $1 each, and children can have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny for $2. Otherwise, the contests are free.

The other contests include a ring toss, duck pond, basketball throw, ping-pong ball toss, egg toss, rabbit races, go fish, guess the jellybeans in the jar, a paper egg decorating competition and an egg rolling contest.

In addition, she said, there will be balloons for all the children present. Speaking of balloons, there will be a special entertainer on hand for the children a balloonist. The balloonist, sponsored by the Artesian Arts League, will tie balloons into the shape of different animals for the youngsters.

While the Easter Egg Hunt is open to all children in Nevada County, there are some rules that must be followed. First, each child must provide their own Easter basket in order to hunt eggs. Then, each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Godwin said those hiding the eggs this year will include the Nevada County elected officials, the 4-H youth group and the Nevada County Fair Queens.

In the event of inclement weather (rain), the egg hunt will be held inside the Potlatch building. Actually, for the past two years the hunt has been done inside because of rain.
