Vandals struck the Emmet School library, leaving the front door a mess, while breaking a window.

The incident occurred between 7 p.m. Friday, April 2, and 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, according to Heb Sorrells, media information director with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

The act of criminal mischief was discovered by Emmet residents Jerry Jones and Jack Faulkner, Sorrells said. The two notified the NCSO, and an investigation began.

The glass in the front door had been broken, apparently by a rock, later found inside. Ketchup was squirted onto the door, with lard smeared there as well. An egg was found to be broken against it also.

Sorrells said the rock thrown through the glass damaged an inside wall.

However, entry was never gained into the library, and nothing was found to be missing.

But, he said, investigation into the incident continues, as the damage done constitutes a felony offense.
