Novel McAteerPublished Wednesday, March 26, 2003 in the Nevada County PicayuneBro. Novel Alexander McAteer, 89, of Camden, died suddenly Monday, March 17, 2003, at Ouachita Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 15, 1913, in the Theo Community near Bluff City. He was the son of Harve McAteer and Sarah Catherine (Cattie) Boswell McAteer. He was preceded in death by Lorena Glass McAteer, his wife of 70 years, and by their son, Denvia John Harvey McAteer, Sr. He was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. He was both an ordained deacon and an ordained minister. Bro. McAteer pastored the following churches: First Landmark in Camden; Antioch in Tucson, Ariz.; Holly Creek in Broken Bow, Okla.; East Side in Broken Bow, Okla.; Faith in Ozark, Ark.; Pleasant Hill in Scranton, Ark.; and Corinth in Stephens. Survivors include a grandson, Denvia John Harvey McAteer, Jr. and wife, Brenda Williams McAteer; a granddaughter, Marvanna Merritt and husband, Charles Richard (Chuck) Merritt, Sr.; three great-grandchildren, Charles Richard (Chuck) Merritt, Jr.; Staci Sewell and husband, Steven Sewell; Holli Merritt; one brother, Cloys McAteer and wife, Cathy Sanders McAteer; and one daughter-in-law, Margaret McAteer Neeley and husband, Jim Neeley. Funeral services were at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at 10 a.m. with burial in Morris Cemetery in Nevada County. Officiating was Bro. Richard Merritt, Bro. Willie F. Knight, Bro. Steven Sewell. The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the funeral home. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
