Woman charged with bringing drugs into jailBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 12, 2003 in the Nevada County Picayune A Prescott woman learned the hard way smuggling drugs into the Nevada County Jail isn't a good idea. According to court records, Anna Jewel Scott, who also goes by the name Annie, and Bobbie Beasley approached the courtesy window at the Nevada County Sheriff's Department around 1:10 a.m. The jailer at the time was Julian Beasley. Scott handed the jailer a plastic bag containing a bottle of lotion. J. Beasley went upstairs to see if Rodney Walker had a letter for his mother. Walker said the letter had been sent by a Sarah Bridges. J. Beasley informed Scott of this, with Scott and B. Beasley leaving. The jailer inspected the items and saw something inside the bottle wrapped in cellophane. He called Prescott Police Officer Danny Martin and Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell. Martin squeezed the object out of the bottle, with the officers learning it was a sandwich bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Scott was arrested and charged with furnishing prohibited articles into a correction facility. This is a class B felony, with a possible sentence of 5-20 years in jail and a fine not to exceed $15,000. According to court records, Scott told officers B. Beasley had put the pot in the bottle of lotion. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
