A book drive is underway to help stock the new Nevada County Library, once it opens.

One of the three teams of Leadership Nevada County is sponsoring the book drive as its project for the year.

Librarian Joyce Gibson said the library needs all kinds of books, with the exception of children's books.

The need includes books on history, especially Arkansas history and books written by Arkansans. Books on health issues are also needed, as are books on child disorders, diabetes, philosophy, psychology, inspiration and true-life murders.

The library, Gibson said, also needs books for young readers, such as the Harry Potter series and Sweet Valley High.

Gibson said a set of the J.R.R. Tolkein trilogy would also be greatly appreciated, as the set at the library is being read to tatters.

Books on animals are also needed, as are books on fishing and outdoor recreation.

She said books on everyday law, how-to books, self-help and auto repair are also needed.

The idea is to make the first donation at the grand opening of the new library in either late April or early May. A second donation will be made following the annual Chicken and Egg Festival, as the group will have a booth where books can be dropped off.

The books donated should be in good condition. Tattered books will not be accepted. However, the books can be either hardback or paperback.

Those interested in donating books can contact John Miller at the Nevada County Picayune; Sam Reeder at the Prescott Police Station; Kay Hendrix at Holly's Health Mart; Brenda Williams at H&R Block; or Brandi Karlovec at 887-1364.
