Nashville's Scrappers should have stayed home Friday, Feb. 7, as they were humiliated 66-28 by Prescott's senior boys.

For all intents and purposes, the game was over by halftime, with the exception of the final score as Prescott's defense never allowed the Scrappers to get into the game.

At the outset, the Wolves won the opening tip and fired a trey to set the tone of the game.

The Wolves built a 12-2 lead with 4:30 left in the first, with Nashville's final points in the frame coming on a three-pointer.

Otherwise, it was a clinic by Prescott, as the Wolves could do little wrong.

Prescott's defense prevented Nashville from getting many shots off and few second shots. The Scrappers had fits trying to get inside, while the Wolves did pretty much as they pleased.

By the end of one, Prescott was up 20-5.

The Wolves added another 18 points in the second period, while Nashville matched its first period output.

Nashville scored the first points of the quarter from the free throw line, then watched as the Wolves went on an 18-3 run for the remainder of the stanza.

Joe Steuart put on a clinic, showing the visiting Pumpkinheads how to run an offense.

However, disaster almost occurred with 2:24 left in the period. Prescott's lead was 28-7, and the Wolves had picked off a Nashville pass.

The ball was whipped downcourt to Jason Butler, who headed in for a slam. But, a member of the orange-clad brigade cut Butler's legs out from under him in midair.

The two hit the floor, with Butler bouncing up ready to rip the Nashville player's head off. The Scrapper may have been trying to live up to the team's name, or may have had suicidal tendencies as he didn't back down from Butler.

Possible bloodshed was averted as the officials and Wolves separated the two. After nailing the two free throws, Butler spent the rest of the half on the bench cooling off.

Prescott's offense was all but unstoppable in the third quarter as the Wolves poured in 24 points, and could have scored plenty more, had substitutions not been made at the midway point.

By the end of three, Prescott's lead had been increased to 62-18.

Prescott Coach Larry Newsom emptied the bench in the fourth quarter, getting all of the players game time and experience as the District Tourney begins next week at De Queen.

The Wolves were seven of 14 from the line, with Nashville hitting five of six free throws.

Steuart led all scores with 20 in the game. Butler followed with 13, while A.J. Lewis chipped in 12.

Roger Witherspoon led the Scrappers with six.

WOLVERETTES 34

SCRAPPERETTES 38

There's an old adage in sports A team can't score without the ball.

This is exactly what happened to the Wolverettes as turnovers against Nashville resulted in a 38-34 loss.

For the most part, the game was evenly played, with neither squad able to build much of a lead.

Nashville played at a slow pace, while the Wolverettes looked to run at every opportunity. It was a game of contrasts offensively.

By the end of one, the Scrapperettes led 14-10, mostly due to Prescott turnovers.

Turnovers would prove to a constant throughout the game.

The second quarter opened with Prescott holding the ball, losing it, then stealing it back and scoring to cut the lead to 14-12.

The Wolverettes knotted the score at 14-14, but couldn't take control of the game because of turnovers.

Prescott managed to take the lead at 18-16, and led 20-18 at the half.

There were four turnovers in the first 90 seconds of the third quarter, as neither team took care of the ball.

In spite of the miscues, the Wolverettes managed to build the lead to 23-18 before Nashville fought back and took the lead at 29-24 with a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Scrapperettes built their lead to seven at 31-24 and were able to keep Prescott at bay, somewhat, until the closing minutes when the Wolverettes rallied.

However, the rally came too late.

The Wolverettes were two of seven from the charity stripe, while Nashville was nine of 13.

Tammy Harris led all scorers with 17. Mary Delgado added 10.

Monica Campbell paced Nashville with 14.

In Tuesday's games, Prescott's senior boys handled the Fouke Panthers 50-29, while the Wolverettes dropped a heartbreaker 39-38.
