In recent weeks it has been reported of the many different activities taking place at the Central Arkansas Development/Gurdon Senior Adult Center.

One of those many activities is quilting. Several ladies who visit the center enjoy sitting around talking to one another and creating some of the most beautiful quilts ever seen.

One particular quilter, Sybil Harris, who can be seen many days leaving the center and heading to her favorite hangout, The New Image Beauty salon. At New Image Sybil visits with friends and owners Jeannie White and Donna Paull.

Paull made mention of a quilt topper she had been working on for some time now, but hadn't gotten quilted yet. Harris suggested Paull bringing the quilt by the shop and letting her and some of the other ladies work on it for her along with Paull.

Paull brought the quilt to the shop and Doris Vance, another distinguished quilter from the Center and customer of Paull's came to the shop and set up the quilting stand.

Before long everyone was interesting in learning the art of quilting and Harris and Vance found themselves teaching along with quilting.

Paull already knew how to quilt and enjoys working on this one with the ladies. White had never quilted before, but has enjoyed learning from such good teachers.

Kelli Clark became interested and wanted to be involved in the quilting of Paull's quilt. After a few short lessons at the Center with Harris and Vance, Clark was at the beauty shop quilting too.

Sue Nelson soon got in on the fun along with Lynn LeMay.

Harris said she began quilting years ago and learned from her mother. She and her mother made quilts together for many years.

Vance said she had learned years ago when she was a little girl. She was also taught by her mother. "I will be 81 years old in February and I have made lots of quilts," said Vance.

The quilt was a project started by Paull and has now become a piece of friendship and fellowship.
