Former Resident Tabbed Runner Up As Top MD

For the third consecutive year Dr. Steve Murry of Gilmore, Texas, has been selected as a runner-up in the Longview, Texas, News-Journal's annual doctor of the year contest.

Dr. Murry is the son of Rucker and Wilma Murry of Prescott. He graduated from Prescott High School in 1972.

Murry was nominated this year by grateful patients just as he was in 1998 and 1997.

One letter submitted by a patient praises Murry for taking the time to talk to patients in detail about their medical conditions. "He is a kind and caring doctor with all his patients," the patient wrote.

A Prescott native, Murry holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He attended medical school at the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas.

Murry completed his internship and residency at the Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla., and he established his Gilmore medical practice in 1983.

He is a board-certified in family practices and geriatric medicine, and he is associated with the Diagnostic Clinic of Longview.

Murry and his wife, Cindy, are the parents of four sons, Joe, Jason, Jeffrey and Judson.
