Rosston Council passes budget, expects good yearBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 18, 2002 in the Nevada County Picayune Rosston's City Council wasted no time in approving budgets for the city and its water department. The council, in its regular monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 2, approved a water budget of $84,000, and a city budget of $45,300. According to the proposed water budget, by the time expenses are paid, the expected amount to be left over will be $31,295.60. The city will be making payments to the Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Commission, its debt service reserve, the debt service fund, a depreciation reserve, sales tax, water meters, buy supplies, pay for labor, and possibly extra help, along with making a payment for the new digital water meter reader and employee insurance. The city anticipates spending $8,500 for street repairs, $18,000 to the state, $3,300 to the Nevada County Treasurer, another $3,100 from the Arkansas Treasury Department, $2,000 for its fire departments and has budgeted $10,400 for miscellaneous needs. In other business, Rosston Mayor Lewis Jackson said he has bought a generator for the fire station. Now, when the power goes out, the generator can be fired up and people can gather at the fire station to stay warm and dry. Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown, Jackson said, called and asked if Rosston would be interested in purchasing a 7,000kw generator. The generator cost $700. "We're ready for bad weather," Jackson said. The fire station, he said, was designed to accommodate space heaters as well as a generator. So, should the electricity be out, space heaters can be installed to help keep the station warm. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
